Diwali (or Deepavali) is known as the Festival of Lights and is celebrated over five days. All around the world, people mark this occasion with grandeur, joy, and vibrant traditions. To help our chapters celebrate in a meaningful way, we are providing this booklet with essential information.
About Diwali:
Diwali is one of the most important festivals in India and among Hindu communities globally. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil. The word Deepavali means “a row of lights.”
- Key Days:
Dhanteras – The festival begins with the purchase of metals and auspicious items. - Choti Diwali – Celebrates the triumph of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura.
- Lakshmi Puja – The main day, dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, for wealth and prosperity.
- Govardhan Puja – Honors Lord Krishna’s protection of the people.
- Bhai Dooj – Celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters.
